Jay A. Lewis, age 85 of Park River, ND died Sunday, July 13, 2008 at his home near Park River. Jay A. Lewis was born June 27, 1923 in Golden Township, Walsh County, ND the son of the late William H. and Hazel E. (Ramsey) Lewis. He attended rural school in Golden Township and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River in 1942. Following his education, Jay farmed with his father. Jay was united in marriage to Carol Rinde on April 11, 1950 at the Garfield Lutheran Church, Rural Edinburg, ND. The couple lived and farmed in Golden Township. He farmed with his son Randy until 1988 and was currently raising cattle with his grandson Bjorn Flaten.

Jay was a member of the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Park River, ND; the North Dakota Stockman's Association, and the Odd Fellows Lodge. He served on the Walsh County Agricultural School Board for several years, served on the Farmers Union Credit Bureau Board and the Walsh County Fair Board.

Jay is survived by his wife Carol, Park River, ND; daughters: Julianne (Peder) Flaten, Hoople, ND; Nancy (Scott) Latimer, Brighton, MI; son Randy (Mary Jo) Lewis, Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren; a brother; Charles (Norma) Lewis, Muscatine, IA; and sister Dorothy Gillespie, Park River, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Jan on June 15, 2001; brothers: Vernon, Alan and Robert and twin sister Jean.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, June 16, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Park River, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM and Wednesday for one hour prior to the service all at the church. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Park River, ND. Memorials are preferred to the Altru Hospice/ Park River or Our Saviour's Lutheran Church or the Park River Bible Camp.

The Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River is in charge of the arrangements.
