Irvin D. Nelson, age 70 of Edinburg, ND passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at his home in Edinburg. Irvin D. Nelson was born October 2, 1942 in Grafton, ND the son of the late Thelmer "Bill" and Violet (Hallgrimson) Nelson. He attended elementary school in Union, ND and graduated from Milton High School in 1960. Irvin was united in marriage to Doreen Einarson on December 27, 1963 in Mountain, ND. The couple moved to Racine, WI and later Kenosha, WI where he worked as a security guard for American Motors. Irvin served in the United States Marine Corp from 1966-1968 serving in Vietnam and receiving three purple hearts. Following his discharge he returned to Wisconsin and lived there until 1977 when the couple moved back to Union to farm. He later worked for Close Construction in Milton, ND. In April of 1999 he started working for Marvin Windows in Grafton. He retired in July of 2012. Irvin was a member of the Masonic Lodge 48 of Milton and the Kem Temple Shrine Lodge 49. He was a member of the Alibi Pool League of Park River, ND. Irvin was an avid hunter and spent a lot of time hunting with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Doreen of Edinburg, ND; children: Lynn (Thressa) Nelson, Chris Nelson (Malinda Domben) and Scott Nelson all of Edinburg, ND; grandson Brody Nelson, Edinburg, ND; sisters: Angela (Paul) Peterson of Milton, ND and Beverly (Dennis) Hammer, Edinburg, ND and sister-in-law Sherry Nelson, Grafton, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Leon. Memorial services will be Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg. Visitation will be Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Military rites will be provided by the Davidson American Legion Post #156, the Eagelson-Meling American Legion Post #179 of Milton and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
