In Loving Memory of Irma D. Bustamante Torres
October 5, 1944 – August 13, 2026
Irma D. Bustamante Torres, 81, entered into eternal rest with the Lord on August 13, 2026.
Irma was born on October 5, 1944, in Pearsall, Texas, to Miguela Delacruz and Zaragoza R. Bustamante. She grew up in Saginaw, Michigan, where she began her education and embarked on a life marked by hard work, perseverance, devotion to family, and a willingness to go wherever life called her.
Throughout much of her life, Irma traveled as a migrant worker, spending time in Minnesota and North Dakota before eventually making her home in Grafton, North Dakota. Her strong work ethic carried her through many different jobs over the years, including work in migrant schools and several factories. Among them were the Del Monte factory in Crystal City and Aunt Lilies in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
Irma believed in continuing her education and bettering herself. She proudly earned her GED from East Grand Forks Technical College and went on to complete much of the coursework toward nursing. Her determination to pursue an education while working and raising a family reflected the strength and perseverance with which she approached her life.
Outside of work, Irma found joy in the simple things that brought people together. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting and especially loved music and dancing. These were among the many ways she expressed her creativity and enjoyed life.
Irma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Manuel Torres Jr.; her parents, Miguela Delacruz and Zaragoza R. Bustamante; her children, Maria Isabel Torres and Manuel Torres III; and her brothers, Reyes D. Bustamante Sr. and Feliciano Bustamante. She is lovingly remembered and survived by her children, Martha T. Rodahl (Angel), Martin Torres, Juan Torres, Guadalupe T. Hernandez, and Jose Vidal “Daisy” Torres; her sisters, Clementina B. Cabello (Ismael) and Amelia B. Cardenas (Vicente); seven grandsons and four granddaughters; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Irma's life was one of resilience, hard work, family, and faith. From Texas to Michigan, through Minnesota and North Dakota, and the many places her journey took her, she built a life filled with experiences and memories that will remain with those who knew and loved her.
Her greatest legacy lives on through the generations of family she leaves behind. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, extended family, and friends will carry her memory with them and remember the music, dancing, creativity, determination, and love that were part of her life.
May Irma rest peacefully in the presence of the Lord, reunited with those she loved who went before her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
