Irene Lenore Moen was born April 28, 1919 near Nekoma, ND, the youngest child of Andrew and Oline (Throndset) Moen. Her mother passed away when she was thirteen years of age and her older sisters became very instrumental in her growing up years. She attended school in Nekoma, graduating with the class of 1937. Irene lived on the farm for 60 years, moving to Edinburg in 1998, where she made many new friends and became an active member of that community. In April of 2012, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center of Park River. She continued to participate in the lives of family and friends until her death. She was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, rural Milton, where she held offices in the Church, Sunday School, Ladies Aid and Cemetery Association. When St. Stephen's closed in 1983 she became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Edinburg.
