Irene H. Hodny

Irene H. Hodny, age 93 of Lankin, ND passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at the First Care Health Center of Park River. Irene Hedvika Drtina was born October 17, 1917 in Perth Township, Walsh County, ND, the daughter of the late James J. and Anna M. (Shirek) Drtina. She attended Medford Country School and Cleveland Country School #61 near Lankin. Irene was united in marriage to Frank R. Dub on November 27, 1946 in Lankin, ND. The couple farmed in Medford Township until Frank's death in 1954. She moved her family and purchased a home in Lankin during the spring of 1954. On June 23, 1958 Irene was united in marriage to Albert J. Hodny. Albert passed away May 2, 1998. Irene worked at the Red Owl Store, Lankin Drive Inn, worked at the Potato Flake Plant for a number of years and worked 25 potato seasons with Arden Burbridge Farms in Park River. She also babysat for local families and did housecleaning. Irene was a former member of Christian Mothers, Bechyne, Royal Neighbors Golden Club, Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, a charter member of the Lankin Legion Auxiliary and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Lankin. Irene loved to bake, cook, do canning, grow a garden for her family, made crafts, quilts, afghans, crocheting, Bingo, Jumbo Puzzles and enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Irene is survived by her daughters: Elaine Uhlir, Fordville, ND; Fran (Larry) Simmons, Park River, ND; son Albert T. Hodny, Lankin, ND; grandchildren: David (Alica) Uhlir, Todd Uhlir, Daniel Uhlir, Danette Uhlir, Trevor (Shannon) Uhlir, Ryan (Sarah) Simmons, Brandon (Amy) Simmons, great grandchildren: Kailyn, Logan and Ty Uhlir and Mason, Isaiah, Josiah, Jack, Anna and Molly Simmons; brother Adolph E. Drtina, Park River, ND; sister-in-law Ellen Drtina, Hememtson, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands: Frank R. Dub and Albert J. Hodny, granddaughter, son-in-law, four brothers, four sisters and two sisters-in-law. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 11:00 A.M at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Lankin. Friends may call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Lankin.
