Ione Ford

Ione Ford, age 90 of Park River, ND passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the First Care Health Center of Park River. Ione Erickson was born July 9, 1921 at Starkweather, ND, the daughter of the late Anton and Geline (Underberg) Erickson. She graduated from Starkweather High School in 1939 and attended Valley City State Teachers College for two years and graduated from North Dakota State University in Fargo with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics. She taught in Elgin, Park River, Hoople and Petersburg, ND. On August 2, 1948 she married Alex Ford of Park River, ND where she has made her home until her death. Alex died Nov. 2, 1997. She was an active member of the Federated Church, served on the governing board, active in Sunday School as well as a member and active in Women's Fellowship of the church. She served on the Advisory Board of the Park River Good Samaritan Center in Park River and was a member of the Good Samaritan Auxiliary. Ione is survived by her children: Jane (Leland) Buckmeier, West Fargo, ND; Trudy (Dean) Engebretson, Pinehurst, NC; Tom (Pam) Ford, Cavalier, ND; eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren and siblings: Gerald (Jan) Erickson, Chicago, IL; LaVonne (Ole) Sampson of West Fargo. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alex, brothers: Orris and Boyd Erickson and sisters: Doris Nielsen and Orella Hovland. Funeral services will be Monday, June 25, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at the Federated Church of Park River. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Monday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Park River, ND.
