Howard J. Johnson, age 86 of Mesa, AZ and formerly of Grafton died Sunday at the Banner Baywood Hospital of Mesa, AZ.
Howard J. Johnson was born April 1, 1923 near Park River, ND the son of the late Peder and Laura (Flaten) Johnson. He attended rural school near Park River and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River. He attended the LBI in Minneapolis for two winters. Howard was united in marriage to Darline Torreson on November 12, 1954 in Hoople, ND. Howard farmed with his brother Allerd until 1972 when Howard's family moved to Grafton and he went into real estate brokerage. He owned and operated his own business in Grafton until retiring and moving to Mesa.
Howard was a member of the former Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church, rural Park River, the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Grafton, the Victory Lutheran Church of Mesa and the Grafton Kiwanis.
He is survived by his wife Darline of Mesa, AZ; children: Vonda (Michael) McGarvey, Kalispell, MT; Paul Johnson, Greenville, TX; Daryl (Cindy) Johnson, Grand Forks, ND; Douglas (Cathy) Johnson, Winona, MN; Nathan (Robyn) Johnson, Mesa, AZ; seven grandchildren: Brooks Johnson, Sean Johnson, Ben Johnson, Dylan Johnson, Mariah McGarvey, Bethany Johnson and Elias Johnson two great granddaughters: Chloe & Sofia; siblings: Allerd Johnson, Park River, ND; Martha Troftgruben, Grafton, ND; Lois Winther, Park River, ND; Dorothy (Vernon) Russum, Grafton, ND; Marilyn (Rossford) Johnson, Park River, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 18, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Monday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Grafton Lutheran Cemetery.
The Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton is in charge of the arrangements.
