Hortensia "Marie" Guzman

Hortensia "Marie" Guzman, age 84 of Laredo, TX and formerly of St. Thomas and Grand Forks, ND passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Laredo, TX.

Hortensia Sepeda was born June 26, 1936 in Dilly, TX, the daughter of the late Margarito and Aurora (Flores) Sepeda. Her family later moved to Crystal City, TX where she grew up. She was united in marriage to Pedro Guzman on January 12, 1953 in Crystal City. The couple lived there and in North Dakota until 1972 when they moved to Grafton, ND. The couple worked for Orville Gilleshammer Farms. Hortensia worked grading potatoes and driving trucks during harvest. She later started working at the Grafton Developmental Center and worked there until retiring at age 65. The couple moved to Grand Forks, ND. Pedro passed away in 1997. In 2016 she moved to Laredo to live with her daughters.

Hortensia is survived by her children: Endenia Guzman, Laredo, TX; Celia (Arnold) Ramirez, Laredo, TX; Alonzo (Julie) Guzman, Grand Forks, ND; Fred (Sue) Guzman, Lakeville, MN; Peter (Marrilee) Guzman, Grand Forks, ND; Jesse (Irma) Guzman, Red Oak, TX; 17 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and sister, Irene Lara, Crystal City TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and four sisters.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Grafton, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, social distancing and face masks will be required.
