Herbert E. Enns

Herbert Edwin Enns was born August 24, 1911 in Reedley, CA to Peter D. and Katherine (Koop) Enns. The family moved to Shafter, CA, where they were active members of the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church. Herb's happiest memories were those of his days in the Young Adult Sunday School Class, the Male Chorus, and playing the accordion. On December 31, 1933, Herb married Evelyn Boese and they made their home in So. CA. Two daughters were born to this union, Kathleen and Claire Rene. Herb was a master of all trades, working in the shipyards during the war, then welding and sheet metal, plumbing, landscaping, heating and air conditioning, and real estate. He took great joy in simply helping people. Herb was an active member of Lutheran Church of Our Savior in San Clemente, CA, serving as President of the Congregation and singing in the choir. When Evelyn passed away in 1966, Herb continued living in Orange Co. until his retirement to Redding, CA. In 1992 he decided to live near family in Everett, WA and then Ortonville, MN before settling in Park River in 2009. His last move was to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Park River. He was very thankful for the good care he received there, and was completely at peace in his last days. Herb passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012 at the age of 101. Herb is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dave and Claire Rene Hinrichs of Park River, ND; Grandchildren Steve (Stephanie) Meehan of Monticello, UT; Kevin Meehan of Idaho; Terry (Jana) Meehan of Salem, OR; Pat (Sharon) Meehan of Castro Valley, CA; Tim (Julie) Meehan of Springfield, OR; Timothy (Renata) Hinrichs of Mankato, MN; Christine (Timothy) Gilmore of Musoma, TZ; Bethany (Jeremy) Setness of Park River, ND; Rachel Hinrichs of Grand Forks, ND; 20 Great Grandchildren; brother Paul Enns of Bakersfield, CA; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn; daughter Kathleen Land; his parents, Peter D. and Katherine Enns; brother, John Enns; 3 sisters, Frieda Nikkel, Elsie Sieman and Catherine Hamm, and one Great Grandson, Paul Hinrichs. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at the Victory Free Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery of Rural Park River.
