Henrietta K Strand

Henrietta (“Hattie”) Strand, age 91 of Park River, ND, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.

Henrietta Shirek was born February 28, 1929 in Latona Township, Walsh County, ND near Lankin, the daughter of the late Frank, Sr. and Pauline (Zahradka) Shirek.  She grew up and attended school in Latona Township.  She was united in marriage to Duane Strand on October 2, 1951 at the Fordville Lutheran Church. They farmed south of Lankin before retiring to Park River. She worked for 34 years at the Park River Good Samaritan Center first as a kitchen aide, but later changed to solely baking pastries and cookies.

She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and WELCA of Park River and a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and Ladies Aide of Lankin.  She was also a member of the Cleveland Circle Homemakers Club. She enjoyed baking and took great pride in her pastries.  She was known county wide for her delicious kolaches.  When she wasn’t baking, she was doing the word jumbles and crossword puzzles in the newspaper.

Henrietta is survived by her children: Connie Strand, Palatine, IL and Allan (Sarah) Strand, Portland, OR; grandsons: Scott (Katherine Quigley) Strand of Oakland, CA and Mark Strand of Portland, OR; great grandchildren: Harper and Isaac Strand of Oakland, CA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Duane, brothers William and Frank Shirek, Jr., and her sister Kamillia Skalickey.

A private service will be held with interment at the Kosobud Cemetery of Rural Lankin. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are preferred to the Kosobud Cemetery or the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River.
