Helmer T. Haug

Helmer T. Haug, age 104 of Grafton, ND passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. Helmer T. Haug was born October 17, 1904 in Newfolden, MN the son of the late Ole T. and Julia (Swenson) Haug. He attended schools in Newfolden and Hoople, ND. Helmer was united in marriage to Nellie Widness on November 7, 1931 in Grafton, ND. The couple lived and farmed in Martin Township of Walsh County until retiring in 1968. They moved into Grafton in 1986. Nellie passed away on April 29, 1990. Helmer continued to live in his home until 2006 when he moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home. Helmer was a member of the Grafton Lutheran Church and a member of the former Landstad Lutheran Church of Auburn. He served as treasurer of the Martin School District #67 for 16 years. He also ran the road maintainer for Martin Township for many years. Helmer is survived by his children: Hazel (Glenn) Coulthart, Grafton, ND; Doris (Bruce) Jackson, Grafton, ND; Donna Fisher, Grafton, ND; Norman Haug, Grand Forks, ND; Judy (Mark) Holt, Grafton, ND; Donald Haug, Grand Forks, ND; 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Edwin (Kathy) Haug, Grand Forks, ND and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers: Oscar, Lewis, Paul, Otto and two infant brothers, sisters: Annie and Gina, granddaughter Robin Haug, grandson Herb Kretzsinger, son-in-law Allen Fisher and daughter-in-law Sharon Haug. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Grafton Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Grafton Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Grafton Lutheran Radio Fund.
