Helen L. Schumacher

Helen L. Schumacher, age 99 of Grafton, ND passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton, with her family by her side.

Helen Lorraine Orsund was born on August 30, 1926 in Grafton, ND to the late Peder and Anna (Iverson) Orsund. She was raised on the family farm as one of ten children. Helen attended country school and then Grafton High School. She united in marriage to Warren “Buster” Schumacher on May 22, 1947. They made their home in Grafton where they ran their family business and raised their family.

Helen was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. She was also a member of the American Legion and Eagles Auxiliary.

Helen is survived by her children: David (Linda) Schumacher, Grafton, ND and Cathy Jelinek, Eden Prairie, MN; grandchildren: Jolie (Paul) Weiland, Richfield, MN, Richie (Jayce) Schumacher, Grafton, ND, Christine (Chris) Bjorneby, Grafton, ND, Jonathon Jelinek, Grafton, ND, Suzie (Alan) Benjamin, Sioux Falls, SD, Louis (Shirley) Jelinek, Hong Kong; great grandchildren: Grace, Olivia, Alice, Greer, John, Elle, Jack, Claire, Emma, Anna, Warren, David, Elsie, Micah, Natalie, Lizzy, Leo, Eddie, Dakota, and Nuka; and sisters: Eleanor Henderson, Fargo, ND, Margie Kennedy, Grafton, ND, and Phyllis Eng, Grafton, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son in law Aaron Jelinek, and six siblings.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery of Grafton. In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to St. John’s Catholic Church Roof Project or Buster Schumacher Park at Grafton Parks and Rec. Helen's service will be livestreamed via the Tollefson Funeral Home website.
