Hazel Thorson

March 13, 1918 — April 2, 2009

Hazel I. Thorson, age 91 of Edinburg, ND died Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park River. Hazel I. Myrvik was born March 13, 1918 to John and Anna (Kragero) Myrvik in Tiber Township, Walsh County, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at the St. Stephen's Church, rural Milton, ND. She attended the Tiber School #77 and the Lutheran Bible Institute of Minneapolis, MN in 1938.

Hazel was employed at the Deaconess Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, Dayton's in Minneapolis, MN; Mars Candies and Admiral Radio Corporation in Chicago, IL; and the Army Engineers and Sears Roebuck in Seattle, WA. In 1950 she returned home to help care for her mother in failing health.

Hazel was united in marriage to Alton Thorson on June 16 1951. The couple farmed in the Edinburg area until 1990. They moved to the Edmore Rest Home in December of 1999. Hazel moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Park River in 2004. She was a member of the Grace Free Lutheran Church and the Women's Missionary Federation of Grace Free Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her children: Lowell Alton (Linda) Thorson, Edinburg, ND; and Rebecca Grace (Marvin) Thurn, Garnerville, NY; two grandchildren: Mark Alton Thorson and James Lowell Thorson, both Edinburg, ND; and brother Orval Myrvik, Park River, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alton and brother Arnold Myrvik.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 6, 2009 at 2:30 PM at the Grace Free Lutheran church of Edinburg. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Odalen Lutheran Cemetery, rural Edinburg.

The Tollefson Funeral Home of Edinburg is in charge of the arrangements.
