Hazel L. Haugland, age 94 of Grafton, ND passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Unity Medical Center of Grafton. Hazel L. Haugland was born January 24, 1920 in Dundee Township, Walsh County, ND the daughter of the late Eivend and Annie (Twedt) Haugland where she grew up and attended school. Following her education Hazel remained on the farm and took care of her parents. After her father's death Hazel and her mother moved into Park River where she lived with her until her mother's death. She moved to Grafton and worked at the Grafton Developmental Center for 21 years. Hazel moved to Grand Forks in 1995 and lived at Parkwood Place. Then in 2001, she moved back to Grafton into the Lutheran Sunset Home until the time of her death. Hazel was very fond of cats and had quite a collection of cat figurines. She loved watching birds, loved listening to music, and she enjoyed to sew, especially sewing dresses for her nieces. Hazel was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mildred Haugland, Fargo, ND and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Victor, George, Melvin, Alvin and Elmer and sisters: Mabel Knutson and Ilah Edvenson. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Lutheran Sunset Home Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Park Center Cemetery, rural Hoople, ND.
