Hazel M. Bernaas

Hazel M. Bernaas, age 90 of Park River, ND and formerly of Hoople, ND passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park River. Hazel M. Gallaway was born January 24, 1924 in Vang, ND the daughter of the late James and Mollie (Hiller) Gallaway. She attended rural school near Walhalla, ND. Following her education she housekeeper/caregiver in the Hoople area. Hazel was united in marriage to Glen V. Bernaas on November 16, 1972 at Hvideso Lutheran Church, rural Hoople. The couple made their home on the farm until his death in 2010. In 2011 she moved to Park River, ND and in July of 2014 she moved to the Good Samaritan Center. Hazel was a member of the former Hvideso Lutheran church and was currently a member at Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg. She is survived by her two sisters: Gladys Johnson, Pisek, ND and Eileen (Ed) McKay, Grand Forks, ND. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings: James Sidney, Ruby, Melvin, Levern, Stanley, Kenneth and Rozella. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Edinburg. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Hvideso Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hoople.
