Harvey F. Skjerven, age 91 of Grafton, ND passed away Monday, October 27, 2014 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. Harvey Frederick Skjerven was born July 11, 1923 in rural Grafton, ND the son of the late Edward and Hildur (Peterson) Skjerven. He graduated from High School in Park River, ND. In 1944 he enlisted in the United States Army and served with the 3rd Infantry until his discharge in 1946. On September 10, 1945 he married the love of his life, June "Dolly" Elshaug. Harvey was a printer all his life, working at the Grafton Record for over 30 years and later operating AMCO Printing in Grafton with his son Jeff. He was a lifelong member of Grafton Lutheran Church. He was a very active member of the Grafton American Legion Post #41 for 67 years. He was a member of the American Legion's Honor Guard. He devoted countless hours as chaplain for Post 41, insuring that all veterans received military honors. He enjoyed gardening and putzing in his garage. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Harvey is survived by his wife, June of Grafton, ND; daughter, Jennifer (Howard) Welch, Mesa, AZ; sons, Jeffrey (Bonnie) Skjerven, Grafton, ND and Joel (Colleen) Skjerven, Minocqua, WI; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren, brothers: Dean (Leah) Skjerven, Park River, ND; Arnold (Evelyn) Skjerven, Newfolden, MN, sister Arlene (Earl) Rachac, Fargo,ND. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Ernie, Gordy and Hillmer. Memorial services will be Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Grafton Lutheran Church, Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Grafton Lutheran Church. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post #41 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
