Harriet J. Callahan

Harriet J. Callahan, age 90 of Grafton, ND passed away on Friday, August 28, 2015 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. Harriet Jane Holt was born March 4, 1925 in Grafton, ND the daughter of the late Henry and Julia (Serness) Holt. She attended School District 44 near Grafton and graduated from Grafton High School. Following her education she worked for the Grafton Milk Company. She later moved to Grand Forks and was employed at J.C. Penny's. Harriet was united in marriage to Merlyn "Murphy" Callahan on May 31, 1947 at United Lutheran in Grand Forks, ND. The couple lived in Grand Forks until 1949 when they moved to Grafton and Murphy started working for the W.W. Reyleck Store. Harriet worked at the Grafton Developmental Center for a number of years then joined Murphy working at Reyleck's. She worked there until the store closed in 1995. Harriet was a member of the Grafton Lutheran Church and WELCA, Grafton Bowlers, Grafton Heather Curlers and a birthday club. Harriet is survived by her husband, Murphy, Grafton, ND; children: Colleen "Kande" (Patrick) Koehmstedt, Grafton, ND; Jody (David) Clemens, West Fargo, ND; Patricia "Patsy" (Robert) Gust, Karlstad, MN; Nancy Callahan, Grand Forks, ND and Paul Callahan, Grafton, ND; 15 grandchildren, one step grandchild, 27 great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, her sister, Marilyn Withy, Ramsey, MN. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Ruth, Helen, Dorothy and Junice and brothers: Kenneth, Raymond, John and William. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Grafton Lutheran Church, Grafton, ND. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Grafton Lutheran Cemetery.
