Harold J. Troftgruben, age 92 of Edinburg, ND passed away on Monday, August 2, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park River. Harold Troftgruben was born June 11, 1918, at the Troftgruben farmstead in Tiber Township west of Edinburg, ND, the son of the late Carl and Ida (Sundvor) Troftgruben. He grew up on the family farm and attended the Troftgruben rural school and Edinburg High School. Harold began farming with his grandfather, father and brothers. On March 17, 1940, Harold was united in marriage to Lillian Bakken, whose father had come from Nord Odal, Norway, to work for Harold's grandfather Hans. The couple lived on their farm west of Edinburg until 2004 when they moved from the farm to Edinburg. In 2007 they moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Park River. Harold was a member of the Odalen Lutheran Church and the Trinity Lutheran Church, both of Edinburg. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and woodworking. In their retirement years, Harold and Lillian enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. visiting family and friends. Harold is survived by his wife of 70 years Lillian of the Good Samaritan Center of Park River; three sons: Hartley (Vonnie), Eugene, OR; Charles (Sharon), Fargo, ND; Irvin (Marilyn), Grand Forks, ND; one daughter Faye (Fred) Kohlmeyer, Palm Beach Gardens, FL; eleven grandchildren; four step grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He is also survived by one brother Harlan Troftgruben, Vancouver, WA and one sister Marlys (Curtis) Carlson, Forest Lake, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Edroy, Earl and Arnold and sisters: Mildred, Evelyn and Irene. Funeral Services will be Friday, August 6 at 11:00 A.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Edinburg, ND. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Edinburg. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Odalen Cemetery of rural Edinburg. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Odalen Cemetery.
