Dr. Harold B. "Doc" Blanchard, age 81 of Grafton, ND died peacefully August 22, 2012 at the Valley Elder Care, Transition Care Unit under the care of Altru Hospice. Harold B. Blanchard was born March 21, 1931 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late Dr. Harold B. and Ann (Egeland) Blanchard. In 1932 his family moved from Chicago, IL to Grafton, ND. He graduated from Grafton High School in 1949 and attended the University of North Dakota for two years. He graduated from the National College of Chiropractic, Chicago, IL in 1955. He was united in marriage to Nancy Loos on July 12, 1953 in Grafton. After his graduation, the couple returned to Grafton where he practiced with his father. In 1957 the couple moved to Langdon, ND with their two sons: Steve and Dave. They were blessed with two daughters Pam and Kim. In 1997 the couple moved back to Grafton. Harold practiced full time until 1993 and continued practicing part time until the time of his death. He was a part of the Langdon Airport and Housing Authority, a Scout Master for many years, President of the United Lutheran Church Council, was the first Cavalier County Civil Defense Director, and President of the North Dakota Chiropractic Association. He was a board Charter Member of the Langdon Jaycees, receiving a number of honors and holding local and state offices, and was a Jaycee International Senator. He served on the Langdon School Board, was president of Cavalier County Hospital Foundation, Chairman of Community Betterment Committee, ABM Steering Committee, GNDA Council and Committee, and served on the city council for four years. He was mayor for 16 years. During his tenure as mayor he played a major role in the community development as the city experienced rapid population acceleration and deceleration when the U.S. Army Anti-Ballistic was constructed and then deactivated. He was the outstanding citizen in Langdon in 1973. In 1997 Doc and Nancy moved to Grafton. He was a member of the Grafton Lutheran Church. He was tireless in his efforts at the Heritage Village; serving on the board since 2000 and as president since August 2004. He was very instrumental in obtaining and moving "Uncle Sig's" many collections from Nash to the Heritage Village. Doc was the outstanding citizen in Grafton in 2010. Doc enjoyed hunting, golfing, fishing, water and snow skiing and spending summers at Cass Lake with friends and family. Harold is survived by his wife Nancy Blanchard, Grafton, ND; sons: Steve (Janey) Blanchard, Park Rapids, MN; Dr. David Blanchard, Langdon, ND; daughters: Dr. Pam (Jim) Gold, Great Falls, MT; Kim (Kent) Hoversten, Bloomington, MN; granddaughter Lyn (Charles) Peterson, Rochester, MN; grandsons: Benjamin Blanchard, Fargo, ND; Taylor Gold, Great Falls, MT; Christopher Gold, Great Falls, MT; great grandchildren: Ella and Cole Peterson, brother Dr. Jerry (Karen) Blanchard, Grafton, ND; sisters: Maryann Kennedy, Marshall, MN and Shirley Colgrove, Bryan TX. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law: Paul Kennedy, John (Marjorie) Loos and foster child Chad Lee Nelson. Memorial services will be Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the Grafton Lutheran Church, Grafton, ND. Friends may call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service.
