Halward M. Dipple

Halward M. Dipple, age 89 of Grafton, ND passed away on Monday, October 24, 2011 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. Halward was born June 20, 1922 in Acton township, Walsh County, ND the son of the late George and Adeline (Carpenter) Dipple. He attended school in Acton township and graduated from Grafton High School. Following his education he served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946. Upon his discharge he returned home and started farming near Grafton. Hal was united in marriage to Beatrice Plutowski on November 3, 1948 in Warsaw, ND. The couple lived and farmed near Grafton. He did custom combining with Merlyn Collette for several years. Hal retired from farming in1991 and moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home the end of August 2011. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Oakwood, ND where he served on the church council. He was a member of the Grafton American Legion Post #41, V.F.W. Post #9367, Grafton Knights of Columbus and the Grafton Eagles. He also served on the Crop Improvement Association Board. Halward is survived by his wife Beatrice of Grafton, ND; children: Kay (Don) Shilling, Fargo, ND; Dennis (Jennifer) Dipple, Grand Forks, ND; and Carol (Derek) Harris, Waxhaw, NC; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Phyllis. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Oakwood. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 with a Rosary service at 7:00 PM at Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, Warsaw, ND. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
