Gudrun Einarson

Gudrun M. "Gunna" Einarson, age 93 of Mountain, ND and formerly of Edinburg died Sunday, November 2, 2008 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. Gudrun Mildred Sigurdson was born May 14, 1915 at the home of her grandmother near Gardar, ND the daughter of the late Sigurdur and Anna (Bergman) Sigurdson. Gudrun's mother died at a young age and Gudrun helped raise her siblings. She graduated as valedictorian from the Gardar High School in 1933.  Gudrun was united in marriage to Huskuldur "Husky" Einarson on Feb. 8, 1939 at the Parsonage in Mountain, ND.  The couple made their home on the family farm in Thingvalla Township where they raised their five daughters. Husky died on May 30, 1971.

Gunna continued her role as caregiver by working as a nurse's aide at the Borg Pioneer Memorial Home in Mountain for 20 years. She was also very dedicated to the community. She was active in the Gardar Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid, served as a 4-h Leader and was involved with the local homemakers group and the Borg Auxiliary. Her culinary skills were exceptional and she took great pride in carrying on the traditions of her Icelandic ancestors. Her home was always filled with plants and flowers. Gunna lived the last 13 years of her life at the Borg Facilities. She enjoyed word puzzles and reading and especially enjoyed visits from family and friends.
