Grace Wedel

January 15, 1956 — November 13, 2008

Grace Ann Wedel, the youngest of six children, was born to Harry and Marie Toews Wedel at Bethel Home in Montezuma, Kansas on January 15, 1956. She quietly left this world on November 13, 2008, surround by her sisters and nephews who meant so much to her.  It was a beautiful passing.  She reached the age of fifty-two years.

Grace spent her childhood years in Montezuma, Kansas and attended the Montezuma Grade School. She later received her Grade 12 diploma from American School.

Grace felt the call of the Lord, was baptized on January 26, 1969 by Minister Norman Koehn in the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. She loved and embraced this faith until the end.

Grace was employed by Bethel Home and by Cimarron Insurance. She also enjoyed baby-sitting.  In January 1986 Grace moved to Grafton, North Dakota.  In March 1987, her sister Velma joined her and they made their home in Grafton.  When Velma and Grace moved to Grafton, David and Stella took them in and they became part of the family.  Grace found employment at North Valley Daycare until she opened her own daycare called Gracie's Little People on Valentine's Day in 1994.

Caring for children was Grace's gift from God, thereby influencing many lives. A lover of children, she cared for approximately twenty children.

Grace was diagnosed with cancer in December 1991. After surgery she enjoyed fourteen years of good health.  Grace was deeply disappointed when the re-occurrence of cancer required that she close her daycare.  However, Grace expressed gratitude that she had re-consecrated her life before she became sick.  Her wish was that we will all meet her in Heaven.

A lover of song and a beautiful singer, Grace spent many hours singing, especially the last months that she was sick. The last song she sang on earth was "Amazing Grace".  She truly enjoyed the times someone would sing for her.  How she will be singing in heaven.

Grace is survived by her loving sister, Velma, Grafton, North Dakota; her father Harry Wedel, Montezuma, Kansas; one brother John and Norma, Hillsdale, Oklahoma; two sisters, Sylvia and Robert Smith, Muleshoe, Texas; Marcia and Dale Toews, Elma Manitoba; one sister-in-law Stella Wedel, Grafton, North Dakota; twelve nephews and four nieces, and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

Those preceding her in death are her mother Marie and one brother David.

The family wants to extend their appreciation, first of all, to the Grafton congregation, who have supported Grace during her time of illness. A special thanks also to the staff of First Care Health Center in their loving care of Grace during the last nine weeks of her life.
