Gordon R. Petersen

Gordon R. Petersen, age 92 of Bismarck and formerly of Rocklake, North Dakota, died on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck where he and Alice had lived the past year. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 16 at 2:15 PM in the chapel of the nursing home with Reverend Tim Jenks, Pastor of Bethel Lutheran Church, Bismarck, presiding. Friends may call at the chapel beginning at 1:30. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Egeland, ND on Saturday, May 17. Gordon Raymond Petersen was born October 23, 1921 in Sievert Township, Cavalier County, ND (near Newville and Calio), the son of Marius Petersen and Marie Kristine Madsen Petersen. He grew up in the Clyde area where he attended school, graduating from Clyde High School in 1940. He farmed with his dad during the war. Gordon married Alice Klebaum on June 5, 1946 at Egeland Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. The couple farmed at Clyde for a while and moved to Rocklake in 1949. They farmed until 1961 and moved into Rocklake that year. Gordon worked in building construction as a carpenter foreman for Great Plains Supply until he retired in June of 1982. Petersen's sold the home that Gordon built in Rocklake and moved to Bismarck in November 2005. Surviving Gordon are his wife Alice; daughters Mary (Terrance) Henriksen, Sun City West, Arizona; Carol (Dave Riedy), Bismarck, North Dakota and Lois (John) Kelley, Florence, Colorado. Also surviving are 7 Grandchildren; Gale Henriksen, Kristi Mishler, Sheri (Jay) Morgan, Cory (Crystal) Comeau, Paula Comeau, Alexandra Kelley and Sean Kelley; 8 Great grandchildren: Casey Coauette, Anthony Coauette, Melissa Mishler, Samantha Krogfoss, Olivia Morgan, Shenea Comeau, Elizabeth Comeau and Miranda Egerdahl. Also surviving is his sister Isabel Burckhard of Andover, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Arthur and sister Mildred Munson and granddaughter Nicole Maria Kelley, August 31, 1992.
