Gordon O. Oihus, age 83 of Roseburg, OR and formerly of Grafton passed away on Monday, January 5, 2015 in Roseburg, OR. Gordon Oscar Oihus was born March 4, 1931 in Grafton, ND the son of the late Oscar and Mary (Davis) Oihus. He attended rural school near Grafton and graduated from Grafton High School. Following his education he farmed with his father near Nash, ND. He later worked at the Nash Grain and Trading Co. in Nash. He served in the United States Army with the 3rd Armored Division, 40th Tank Battalion in Germany from 1952-1954. He was united in marriage to Leona Trudeau. Together they had four children: Kathryn, Michael, David and Barbara. He worked for the U.S. Department of State. Leona passed away in 1993. Gordon was united in marriage to Gloria (Opperud) Kansanback on July 12, 1994 in Laramie, WY. Spending their winter months in Arizona, they lived in Minnesota, Wyoming and then Oregon. Gordon was an active member of the DAV-Arizona Department, serving as Chaplain, Honor Guard and Ritual Team. He loved serving in the military. He was an avid reader of history and followed the local and national news closely. He enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved to garden, planting trees and flowers. He is survived by his wife, Gloria, children: David (Michele) Oihus, Tempe, AZ; Barbara (Jack) Sheldon, Mesa, AZ; step-children: Renee (Brad) Schaffer, Rhonda (Tom) Dole, Glen (Jennifer) Kansanback, five grandchildren: Jack Sheldon III, Erik, Alexander, Hannah, and Lukas Oihus, step-grandchildren: Zakiel & Ashley Gallegos, Eric & Liesel Culver, Christine Kansanback, Clayson Kansanback, Caleb Schaffer, Clarah Schaffer, step-great grandchildren: Ava & Margaux Gallegos, Eliah & Arainna Culver. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Leona, children: Kathryn Marie and Michael Gordon, granddaughter, Marie Oihus, siblings: Joyce Baldwin, Dorothy Parkins, Norma Oihus and George O. Oihus. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, January 23, 2015 at 2:00 PM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 6:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Grafton, ND in the spring. Military rites will be provided by the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
