Glen F. Ford, age 88 of Park River passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park River. Glen was born September 5, 1921on the family farm in Kensington Township of Walsh County, the son of the late David and Janet "Jenny" (Robb) Ford. He attended rural school in Kensington Township and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River in 1939. While in high school, and again after returning from the service, he worked at, and then managed the Park River Hatchery. Following high school, Glen attended NDAC in Fargo until enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1942. While in the 3rd Marine Division, he served in the South Pacific with tours of duty on Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Guam and Iwo Jima. Following his discharge in 1945, he returned home, attending NDAC for a time and then farming with his brother David. On December 24, 1949 Glen was united in marriage to Avis Hermanson. Their family grew to include four children, Ann, Lorna, David and Garth. In 1961 Glen began farming the Hermanson family farm near Webster, ND and continued farming there with his sons until retiring. Glen was a member of the Park River Federated Church, the Paul Farup American Legion Post, the Park River Masonic Lodge and Park River Curling Club. He is survived by his children: Ann (Scott) Gunderson, Bathgate, ND; Lorna (Tom) Erovick, Cavalier, ND; David (Nancy) Ford and Garth (Joyce) Ford, both of Webster, ND; ten grandchildren: Jenni Hillman, Paul Gunderson, Beth Kemnitz, Sara Weaver, Andy Erovick, Neil Ford, Jessica Henderson, Meredith Brown, Lindsey Bell and Stewart Ford, 19 great grandchildren and sister Edith (Marlow) Bjerke, Park River, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Avis on Oct. 23, 2006, sisters Mary and Muriel and brothers: David, Kenneth, Alex and Harlan. Funeral services will be Friday, October 30, 2009 at 2:30 PM at the Park River Federated Church. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Park River. Military rites will be provided by the Paul Farup American Legion Post.
