Gladys Marie Vigen, age 91 of Adams, ND passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at the First Care Health Center of Park River.
Gladys Jelinek was born November 29, 1925 in Grafton, ND, the daughter of the late Charles and Herminia (Machovsky) Jelinek. She grew up around the Pisek area and then moved to Grand Forks with her parents. She married Vernon Vigen on June 27, 1946 and moved to Adams to help farm and raise their children. After the children were in school, she worked at the Johnson Store and Red Owl in Adams and cleaned at First United Bank for 25 years.
Gladys was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Park River, the Royal Neighbors of America, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to sew, bake, garden, quilt, read and spend time with her family. She made krumkake every year for First United Bank and quilted with the ladies from Mountain Lutheran Church, Adams, where they called her a “Lutherlic.”
She is survived by her children: Wanita (Jerry) Cost, Fordville, ND, Wayne (DeAnne) Vigen, Adams, ND, Wendell (Linda) Vigen, Killdeer, ND, 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren and brothers: Sidney (Judy) Jelinek, Roseville, CA, David Jelinek, Grand Forks, ND and sister-in-law Lillian Vigen, Hillsboro, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vernon, brothers: Felix and Terry Jelinek, and sister-in-laws: Irene Jelinek and Delores Jelinek.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Park River. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the church. Friends may also call at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the West Adams Cemetery of rural Adams in the spring.
