Gilbert Allen Sampel

Gilbert Allen Sampel (Gib), 76, of Forest River, North Dakota, passed away on June 14, 2013, with his family around him under the care of Red River Valley hospice. Gib was born in Grand Forks, ND on July 7, 1936. He was the third generation to live on and farm the original Sampel Homestead. Gib went to grade school and high school in Forest River. He attended Wahpeton State School of Science. Gib was married to Bonnie Gerrard on April 6, 1957, they were married 56 years. Gib is survived by his spouse, Bonnie, Daughter, Cheri Langei of Grand Forks, Son, Gene Sampel (Kim) of Gilby, Grandchildren, Josh Langei (Julia) of Atlanta, Lindsey Landis of Grand Forks, William, John, and Hannah Sampel of Gilby, Great Grandchildren, Ethan, Savannah, and Brenson of Atlanta, Sisters, Verna Ecker of Grandin, Joyce Bell (Howard) of Indianapolis. Gib is preceded in death by two daughters, his parents, John Allen and Gladys Sampel and Sister, Lona O'Neil. Visitation will be held at the Tollefson Funeral home in Grafton on Sunday, June 16, 2013 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. The funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Monday, June 17, 2013 at Forest River Community Church. Pastor Dan Billings will be officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at Forest River Cemetery.
