Gerald Phelan

Gerald J. Phelan, age 65 of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Minto, ND, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Karlstad Healthcare Center of Karlstad, MN. Gerald J. Phelan was born June 4, 1949 in Grafton, ND, the son of the late Jerome and Rodell (Morris) Phelan. He grew up and attended school in Minto, graduating from Minto High School. He then attended NDSU where he earned a Bachelor's Degree. He continued his education at UND, earning his Master's Degree in Counseling and Guidance. Following his education he moved to Grand Forks. He was united in marriage to Sheri McAlister in May of 1983 in Grafton, ND. The couple moved to Devils Lake where he began working with the Boy Scouts of America. He later worked for Easter Seals in Fargo. He eventually made his way back to Minto where he lived until 2012 when he moved to Grand Forks. He moved into the Karlstad Healthcare Center in November of 2014. He is survived by his children: Danielle (Avery) Dockter, Wild Rice, ND, and Anthony Phelan, Philadelphia, PA, sister Janice (L.T.) Wysocki, Minto, ND, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Clariss. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery of Minto in the spring.
