Gerald J. Dobmeier, age 84 of Park River, ND passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 07, 2009 at the First Care Health Center of Park River. Gerald J. Dobmeier was born November 6, 1924 in Golden Township of Walsh County, ND the son of the late Jacob and Mae (Kenney) Dobmeier. He attended rural school in Golden Township and later attended the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River. Following his education he worked road construction and did trucking for area farmers. He was united in marriage to Viola D. Morstad on March 8, 1947. The couple made their home in Park River before moving to a farm in Golden Township. He farmed there until 1966. He purchased the Sportsman Bar in Park River and owned and operated the bar until 1976. He worked for area farmers until 1983 and then farmed with his son Jim until his retirement.
Gerald was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church. He served on the Board of Directors for the St. Ansgar's Hospital, the North Dakota Liquor Association and was a member of the Park River Jaycee's and the Park River Commercial Club. Most important in Gerald's life was his strong faith in the Lord and his family. Gerald will always be remembered for his love of life and wonderful sense of humor.
He is survived by his children: Judy (Dale) Hultin, Fargo, ND; Vicki (Brian) Bleick, Elgin, ND; Dianne (Jim) Goodoien, Hoople, ND; Jim (Karyn) Dobmeier, Park River, ND; Mary Lou (Shane) Sundby, Oakes, ND; grandchildren: Kristi (Pat) McKenna, Jeremy (Tanya) Hultin, Allison Bleick, Brady (Shelby) Bleick, Tanya (Lance) Wieler, Ryan and Ashley Goodoien, Tami (Jeff) Daley, Kellen & Matthew Dobmeier, Dana (Jessica) Sundby, Russ, Brianna & Jared Sundby; great grandchildren: Dustin &Nicole McKenna, Cameron & Kylie Hultin, Gwyneth & Logan Wieler, Noah, Isabella, Savannah & Alayna Sundby; brother-in-law Orris Evenstad, Grand Forks, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Viola on May 22, 2008, daughter Jeanne Marie Ellefson, sister Dorothy Merrigan and brother Kenneth.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 13, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Park River. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Monday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Park River.
