Georgia Hennessey, age 93 of Park River, ND passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park River. No services will be held at this time.
A memorial service to honor her life will be held in July.
Georgia was born April 25, 1915 in rural Veseleyville, ND the daughter of the late Joseph and Elenora (Vesely) Cicha. She was united in marriage to Leo Hennessey July 5, 1937. They lived in Park River, ND where they raised their
three children. Leo preceded her in death on March 18, 1978.
Georgia was a member of St. Mary's Altar Society and the Park River Hospital Auxiliary for over 50 years. She helped to support the Auxiliary's fundraising with hand embroidered dishtowels which were frequently sold out.
Anyone watching movies at the Lyric Theater would surely have met Georgia as she was behind the popcorn stand for many years. She often remarked that she had served popcorn to three generations.
Never one to sit still, Georgia was involved in many community activities including the American Legion Post #147 Women's Auxiliary. She was particularly proud of her recycling efforts for the Friendship Home in Grafton. Her home served as a drop-off for their recycling program.
Especially sympathetic to children's needs, Georgia collected toys and clothes to send to mission programs. She took great joy as well, in helping to care for her grandson Jesse.
Georgia's flower garden was well-known. She enjoyed spending her summer hours planting and pruning. She shared her bounty by providing flowers for the church and friends.
Georgia is survived by her children: Diane (Henry) Sobolik, Forest River, ND; Daniel (Lillian) Hennessey, Reno, NV; Dena (Stephen) Larson, Park River, ND; eight grandchildren: Rock and Lincoln Sobolik, Broomfield, CO; Jacqueline (Don) Bach, Laguna Niguel, CA; Tonya Hennessey, San Francisco, CA; Sara (Byron) Fisher, Fitchburg, WI; Jesse and Christian Larson, Park River, ND; Andrea Larson, Grand Forks, ND; four great grandchildren; sisters: Martha Dahl and Angie Burger of Park River, ND; brothers: Sylvester (Chieko) Cicha, Seattle, WA; Emmanuel (Donna) Cicha, Grafton, ND; sister-in-law; Trudy Cicha, Park River and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister; Helen Listopad and brothers; Victor, Joseph, Stanley, Bert and Jerome.
The Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River is in charge of the arrangements.
