George E. Latulippe, age 87 of Fairdale, ND passed away on Saturday morning, February 25, 2017 at St. Gabriel’s Community in Bismarck, ND where he had been living since suffering a stroke in 2014.
George Everett Latulippe was born September 10, 1929 to George A. and Ida (Moen) Latulippe in Highland Township of Ramsey County, ND. The family lived on the Dan MacDonald farm where George A. worked. Everett, as he was known to most, lived there until he was six years old when the family moved to Fairdale where he lived until 2014. He attended Fairdale Public School and graduated from High School in 1948.
Everett entered the United States Marine Corps on October 10, 1951. He served in Korea and in the United States until October 9, 1953. He was an artillery sergeant for the 155th Howitzer Artillery Division. He was very proud to be a United States Veteran.
Everett worked on several farms in the Fairdale area over his lifetime. His main career was working for the Farmers Union Oil Company and Cenex Stations in Fairdale, Nekoma and Lawton, retiring in 1990. He was united in marriage to Marion Verke Raknem on October 24, 1971 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church of Fairdale. With this union, Everett gained a daughter, Jan Marie Raknem.
Everett was a member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church of Fairdale, the Park River American Legion Post #147 and the National Farmers Union. A very proud moment for Everett was being a coach for the Fairdale grade school boy’s basketball team where he led them to their only grade school championship in 1958. He enjoyed working and could always be seen mowing his lawn, plowing snow or trimming hedges. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, old time music, westerns and NDSU Football. He loved canning, baking and making donuts. He had a contagious smile and a great sense of humor, always joking around. His greatest enjoyment came spending time with his grandchildren, Marissa and Brandon. These two are Grandpa’s “Pride and Joy”. This was evident by his beaming smile as he spoke of them. He enjoyed supporting them through their childhood years, sporting events and watching them mature into adults.
Everett will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by his daughter, Jan (Shawn) Gieszler, Bismarck, ND; his grandchildren: Marissa and Brandon Gieszler, Bismarck, ND; his sister, Connie Weberg, Fairdale, ND; sisters-in-law: Shirley Verke, and Ella Verke, both of Fairdale, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marion in 2012, sister, Bernadine and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church of Fairdale. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday for an hour prior to the service. Interment will be at West Adams Cemetery in the spring.
