George Frank Jarus passed away on March 4, 2017 after a short illness at the Palliative Care of Fargo, ND, surrounded by his family and friends. The outpouring of thoughts, prayers and wishes showed the impact of this wonderful man, and the fondness experienced by everyone who came to know him.
George Frank Jarus’ journey began on February 19, 1938 in Pisek, ND the son of the late Frank and Marcella (Maresh) Jarus. He attended school in Pisek and graduated from the Home of the Aggies in Park River. After graduation, he served his county with the United States Navy from 1956-1960.
He returned to Pisek, where he married the love of his life, Marie Lipsh, on October 7, 1961. In 1965, they moved to Pembina, ND where he was employed at Motor Coach Industries as a Senior Inspector, until his retirement. He was a member of the Pembina Volunteer Ambulance Service, the Pembina Fire Department, the American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus.
George developed many hobbies and passions over the years including playing golf and bowling, tinkering in his shop, gardening, playing poker, and most importantly, his family. During holidays, he would sit, coffee cup in hand, and watch the family and listen and tell stories, with a smile on his face. He had an affinity for Maple Nut Goodies and all things sweet.
George is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mayme, children: Kimberley (Todd Nordine) Jarus, Annette (Jeff) Homstad, and Lee (Joni) Jarus; six grandchildren: Jordon (Megan) Salazar, Joey (Taysia) Loeffler, Savannah (Danny) Suda, Logan (Juliann) Salazar, Novak and Wynter; seven great grandchildren: Riley, Gabrielle, Brody, Branwen, Savaric, Sawyer and Freyja; sisters: Joyce (David) Tupa and June LeQuire; brothers-in-law: Ron Lipsh and Donald Lipsh; family friend, Joey Loefller, Sr. and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gene; brothers-in-law; Tom LeQuire, Daniel Lipsh, John W. Lipsh and Leonard Lipsh and sisters-in-law: Ann Lipsh and Betty McMillan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 1:00 PM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Park River, ND. Visitation will be Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Park River, ND. Military rites will be provided by the Paul Farup American Legion Post and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
