Gene Lavoy Olson

Gene L. Olson, age 58 of Hoople, ND passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at First Care Health Center of Park River, ND. Gene LaVoy Olson was born January 15, 1955 in Drayton, ND the son of LaVoy and Joyce (Fedje) Olson. He attended school in Hoople and graduated from Valley High School in 1973. Gene attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks for two years. Following his education he returned to Hoople and worked with his father at the Olson Fertilizer Plant. Gene was united in marriage to Cynthia Folson on July 12, 1975 in Grand Forks. The couple made their home in Hoople. Gene later purchased Olson Oil from his father and was in the bulk oil business. He also farmed with his father and brothers raising chipping potatoes for Old Dutch. He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Hoople and he served on the church board. He was a member of the Hoople Swimming Pool Board for several years. He served as Co-chair of the Hoople Centennial Committee. Gene loved hunting, fishing and spending time with family, friends and his "Molly Dog" at Pelican Lake. He also enjoyed breakfast with the guys at the local café, and morning coffee with friends at his office. Gene is survived by his wife Cindy, Hoople, ND; children: Laura (Brett) Brudvik, West Fargo, ND; Jeff (Nicole) Olson, Grafton, ND; two grandchildren: Halle and Ben Brudvik; his parents, LaVoy and Joyce Olson, Hoople, ND; brothers: Doug (Alyson) Olson of Hoople and Mark (Jill) Olson, Grafton, ND. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and infant son Kurt. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at First Lutheran Church of Hoople. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM and again on Saturday for one hour prior to the service all at First Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Hoople City Cemetery.
