Gene R. Gemmill, age 88 of Edinburg, ND, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2017 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks with his family by his side.
Gene Gemmill was born August 14, 1928 near Edinburg, ND, the son of the late Herbert W. and Opal (Jensen) Gemmill. He graduated from Edinburg High School in 1946. Following his education he served in the US Army from 1951-1953 with the First Armored Division in Texas and the 279th Division in Korea where he served as a gunner on a tank. He returned to farm in rural Edinburg where he farmed until his death. He was united in marriage to Elaine Behm on November 6, 1976 in Grand Forks, ND.
He was a member of the Odalen Lutheran Church and the Grace Free Lutheran Church of Edinburg and the Edinburg American Legion Post #156.
Gene is survived by his brother Dale Gemmill and sister Helen (Harold) Sundvor, both of Edinburg, sisters-in-law Irma Gemmill, Grand Forks, ND and Wilma Gemmill, Edinburg, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Elaine, sister Rebecca Ruud, infant sister Susanna, brothers: Herbert, Floyd, and Gordon, brother-in-law Sherman Ruud and sister-in-law Leona Gemmill. Gene was dearly loved by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Grace Free Lutheran Church of Edinburg. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Military rites will be provided by the Edinburg American Legion Post and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard. Interment will be at the Odalen Lutheran Cemetery of rural Edinburg.
