Gene A. Anderson

Gene A. Anderson, age 85 of Grafton, ND passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026 at the Unity Hospital of Grafton, ND.

Gene A. Anderson was born November 26, 1940 in Brocket, ND the son of Arthur and Louise (Sundeen) Anderson. He graduated from Brocket High School in 1958 and graduated from Mayville State College in 1962. Following his education he started teaching in Fessenden, ND. Gene was united in marriage to Marilyn Vold on December 28, 1962 in Grand Forks. The couple lived in Fessenden until 1970 when they moved to Holdingford, MN where he taught until moving to Grafton in 1978. Gene taught in Grafton until retiring in 2002. He coached basketball in all the schools where he taught. He was named the North Dakota State Coach of the Year in 1985 and was honored with Teacher of the Year in Grafton. Gene also worked as a crop adjuster for Nodak Mutual for 35 years and refereed for Girls State Basketball tournaments. Gene and Marilyn spent the winter months in Oregon following their granddaughters basketball games.

He was a member of the Grafton Lutheran church where he served on numerous boards throughout the years. He also taught Sunday School for a few years.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marilyn, Grafton, ND; sons: Lance Anderson, Vancouver, WA and Mark (Rhonda) Anderson, Minto, ND; four grandchildren: Sloan, Marly, Abby and Noah and great grandchildren: Birdie, Cooper and Rowan; his sister: Kristy (Paul) Tronson, Doyon, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survived. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Louise Moilanen and his brother Neil.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 11;00 AM at the Grafton Lutheran Church, Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30-11:00 AM at the church. Inurnment will be at Grafton Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Grafton Lutheran Church or the Unity Hospital Foundation. The service will be live streamed on the Tollefson Funeral Home website.
