Gary L. Fisher, age 70 of Oakwood, ND; passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at his home.
Gary L. Fisher was born March 6, 1946 in Grafton, ND the son of the late Herman Jr. and Mary (Kennelly) Fisher. He graduated from Grafton High School in 1964 and attended Aaker’s Business College in Grand Forks for one year. Gary enlisted in the North Dakota National Guard in 1965 and completed his basic training at Fort Belvoir, VA. Gary was united in marriage to Rosemary Bolek on August 3, 1966 at St. John’s Catholic Church of Grafton. Gary worked for Ray Brown Accounting, Wilson Brother’s, and Grafton Implement. In 1973 he started his career with Wells Fargo Bank, retiring as a Vice President in 2003. He then started working with his son Chad at NationsChoice Mortgage in Arizona.
Gary was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church of Grafton where he served on the church council. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Grafton American Legion Post #41 and served on the Lutheran Sunset Board. Gary loved calling Oakwood home and enjoyed many motorcycle trips with his riding buddies. He was meticulous about caring for his lawn and cars, especially Ol’ Blu. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Gary was an avid walker. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending all their activities. He was especially proud to give the grandkids driving lessons in Ol’ Blu.
Gary is survived by his wife, Rosemary, Oakwood, ND; his children: Chad (Kim) Fisher, Gilbert, AZ; Kim (Ron) Goetz, Gilbert, AZ; Jaime (Marc) Glende, Maple Grove, MN; six grandchildren: Victor (Melissa), Kayla, Sydnee, Gavin, Lane and Makenna and great grandson, Liam.
His sister-in-law, Donna Fisher, Grafton, ND, brother-in-law, Billie Brooks, San Jose, CA and several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Harold, Allen, Norman and Kempis and sister, Marilyn Brooks.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Grafton, ND. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post #41 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials to the Walsh County Food Pantry or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
