Garvie A. Haroldson

Garvie A. Haroldson, age 90 of Park River, ND and formerly of Adams, ND passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park River, ND. Garvie A. Haroldson was born October 8, 1920 in Silvesta Township of Walsh County, ND the son of the late Gilman and Anna (Thrugstad) Haroldson, and baptized at Hitterdal Lutheran Church, rural Milton. He graduated from Adams High School in 1940 and continued to farm with his dad on the family farm. Garvie was united in marriage to Elaine Lofthus on June 28, 1947 at the parsonage at Edinburg, ND. The couple farmed the Haroldson farm, rural Adams, where they raised four children. Garvie was an active member of Hitterdal Lutheran Church and community serving as church secretary, trustee, deacon and Sunday school teacher. He served on the school board of Adams Public School and was director of the Adams Credit Union Board and later the Adams/Park River Board. Garvie served as the Silvesta Township assessor for 38 years. His family will miss his smile and witty sense of humor. He was a spiritual, faithful man and his family was blessed with his virtues of patience, kindness, honesty, perseverance and wholesome example. Garvie is survived by daughter Gayle (Dale) Davidson, Grand Forks, ND; sons: Dick (Renee) Haroldson, Williamsburg, VA; Garlen (Sue) Haroldson, Oakdale, MN; grandchildren: Ryan Haroldson, Jeffrey (Michelle) Haroldson, Chad (Sheri) Haroldson, Jared (Kamie) Davidson, Amber (Mack) Sutphin, Adam (Heather) Haroldson, Jennifer Haroldson, Daniel Haroldson and Thomas Haroldson; great grandchildren: Kai Haroldson, Soren Haroldson, Anders Haroldson, Kristoff Haroldson, Morgan Davidson and Tanner Davidson. He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine; son Dean; parents, Sister Effie in infancy and sister Doris Crawford. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at the Adams Mountain Lutheran Church, Adams, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 1, 2011 from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River, ND. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Hitterdal Lutheran Cemetery.
