Freda M Ferguson

Freda M. Ferguson, age 87, of Grafton, ND passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND.

Freda M. Berg was born on February 21, 1939 in Walsh County, ND to the late Oscar and Gladys (Dowling) Berg. Freda was raised and attended school in the Fordville area. After graduation, Freda began working as a nurse’s aide at St. Ansgar’s Hospital of Park River and Deaconess Hospital in Grafton. She married Robert Ferguson on November 1, 1961 at the Fordville Presbyterian Church. They made their home in Grafton for a few years, before relocating to Gresham, OR in 1968. Freda and Robert owned and operated a building maintenance company in Gresham for many years. Robert passed away in 1988. Freda returned to North Dakota to help take care of her mother. She began working at Lutheran Sunset Home in the kitchen as a cook and remained there until her retirement.

Freda had an incredible sense of humor. Loved ones remember her for her laughter, jokes, and teasing. She enjoyed embroidery, cooking, and the Carol Burnett Show. Her favorite place was the beach and especially the beaches of Oregon. Freda was a member of the Knox Presbyterian Church of Minto.

Freda is survived by her nephews and nieces, special friend Linda Fillippe, and her friends and staff at the Lutheran Sunset Home. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, siblings: Alyce Benson and Carl Berg.

Memorial services will be on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lutheran Sunset Home Chapel of Grafton, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Lutheran Sunset Home. Inurnment will be at Sarepta Lutheran Cemetery of rural Adams, ND.
