Francis L. Novak, age 66 of Pisek, ND passed away on Wednesday, March 04, 2009 at his home in Pisek from complications of diabetes, kidney and heart failure. Francis Louis Novak was born September 29, 1942 in Walsh County, ND the son of the late Frank L. and Agnes (Greicar) Novak. He attended the Pisek Public School, graduating in 1960. He went on to pursue his lifelong passion of farming, which he did from age 18 until his health forced him to retire in 2007.
Francis was active in the community. He served on the Pisek School Board, drove school bus, was owner of the Pisek Hardware Store, served on the boards of the Farmers Union Oil Company, Park River Good Samaritan Board, the Walsh County Watershed Board, Walsh Rural Water Board and the State Water Board. He also received the Soil Conservation Award.
He was active at St. John's Catholic Church, serving on the Church Council and served as trustee on the cemetery board. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Workman (K.D.). He served in the North Dakota National Guard from 1964-1970.
Along with his love of farming, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, family holidays and gatherings, spending time and spoiling his nieces and nephews and their families. Francis was a generous man along with having a stubborn attitude at times. Parents and family were always of great importance to him. He was always willing to be at your side in help and happiness.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by three sisters: Maxine (Frank) Kadlec, Fargo, ND; Mary Faye (Curtis) Levang, Howard Lake, MN; Gertrude (John) Praska, Warren, MN; two brothers: James (Mary Lou) Novak, Grand Forks, ND and Virgil Novak, Pisek, ND; nieces and nephews: Scott, Jeff, Jean, Karen, Craig, Lissa, Jon, Jared, Joel, Jason and Angi. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, March 9, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John's Catholic Church of Pisek, ND. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM and again on Monday for one hour prior to the service, all at the church in Pisek.
Interment will be at the St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
The Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River is in charge of the arrangements.
