Florence Myrtle Thompson, age 93, of Edmore, ND, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at the First Care Health Center of Park River, ND.
Florence Clemetson was born March 14, 1923, in rural Westby, MT, to Oscar and Olga (Olson) Clemetson. She grew up near Comertown, MT, graduating from Comertown High School in 1941. Florence attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, and later attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Seattle, WA, graduating in 1950.
She worked in St. Luke’s Hospital in Fargo and Aberdeen Hospital in Aberdeen, WA. She was a Rosie the Riveter at Boeing during WWII. Following five years as a parish worker at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Longview, WA, in 1956, she married Arnold F. Thompson. They made their home and raised their family on the farm at Edmore, ND. Arnold passed away April 24, 1999. A member of Concordia Lutheran Church from 1956-1987, she served as Sunday School superintendent and teacher, and Ladies Aide president. She organized many a snowmobile party and Luther League event for church youth. Florence was a charter member of Living Word Free Lutheran Church in Edmore, serving as WMF President for many years. Florence was president of the Edmore American Legion Auxiliary, spearheading many Memorial Day programs. She was also president of Edmore Senior Citizens Club several years. Many of her winters were spent with her dear friend and sister-in-law, Verla, in Longview, Washington. Florence lived on the farm until moving into the Edmore Rest Home in October 2016. One of Florence’s greatest joys was studying the Word of God.
She is survived by her sister Marlys (Victor) Vogt; Children: Jenille (Jerry) Niehaus of Cottage Grove, MN, Lois (Brad) Myrvik of Edmore, ND, and Sandra (Ray Harmsen) Thompson of Eden Prairie, MN; 5 Grandchildren: Lance (Kelly) Myrvik, Larisa (Robert) Lichtenberg, Rachel (Cody) Fog, Nathan (Casandra) Myrvik and Lizabeth (Lance) Maki and 2 Great grandchildren: Brielle Myrvik and Jameson Lichtenberg; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Ardith, brothers Harry, Lloyd, Ray and Stanley, an infant sister Lillian, and son-in-law Patrick Doherty.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 2:30 P.M. at the Living Word Free Lutheran Church of Edmore. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the church. Friends may also call at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Saint Ansgar Cemetery of Edmore in the spring.
