Evelyn F. "Evie" Midgarden, age 95 of rural Hoople, ND passed away on Wednesday, September 09, 2009 at the Unity Medical Center of Grafton. Evelyn F. Jamieson was born November 9, 1913 in Hensel, ND, the daughter of the late Guy M. and Florence E. (Johnston) Jamieson. She graduated from Crystal High School as the class Valedictorian. Evie was united in marriage to Chris Midgarden on December 25, 1934 at her parent's home in St. Paul, MN. The couple lived and farmed in rural Hoople, ND. In 1950, they moved to the current farm home which is the first parsonage, and is located across the road from the Zion Lutheran Church. Chris passed away on June 5, 1987. Evie lived in her home until moving to the apartments at Leisure Estates on April 6, 2003. She moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home in November, 2005. Evie was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of rural Hoople where she served as church organist and accompanist for many years. She was also active in the Sunday School program and the Zion Lutheran WELCA. She was one of the founding members of the Walsh Women's Curling club, a member of the Countryside Homemakers and past president of the Women's Farm Bureau. While in High School, Evie played guard on the Crystal Girl's Championship Basketball team. Evie is survived by her children: Marjorie Midgarden Kitzrow, Evanston, IL; Joel (Janet) Midgarden, Park River, ND; Kim (Art) McGinnis, Belle Mead, NJ; seven grandchildren: Tanya, Heather, Nicole, Barbara, Jason, Kirsten and Ashley and seven great grandchildren: Elizabeth, Jack, Alexandra, Samuel, Harry, Max and Christopher. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Evie was the last surviving member of both the Midgarden and Jamieson families of her generation. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, children: Doris, Guy and Neil and siblings: Ray, Max, Ralph, Harry and Don. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Zion Lutheran Church of Rural Hoople. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
