Erva J. Finley Carroll age 85 of Forest River, ND passed away Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. Erva J. Finley was born February 24, 1927 in Grafton, North Dakota, the daughter of the late James and Luva (Horner) Finley. She attended rural country school and graduated from Forest River High School. She then went to Aakers Business College and then to San Bernardino College in San Bernardino, California. She returned to Forest River and was united in marriage to C.L. "Tiny" Carroll. The couple lived and farmed in Forest River for many years. Erva moved to Williston, ND and started a car company selling cars. She then moved back to Forest River and worked as a bookkeeper for Forest River Bean and Hart Machine. After her retirement she moved to Arizona for a few years, later returning to Forest River where she made her home until the time of her death. She was a member of the Forest River Community Church, was a Sunday school Superintendent and teacher for six years, Chairman of the Forest River Park Board for six years, President for National Federated Women's Club and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Erva is survived by her children: Leslie (Dewy) Carroll, Forest River, ND; Shane (Marilyn) Carroll, Forest River, ND; step grandsons: Ryan Savalla, Grafton, ND, Anthony Savalla, Deer Lodge, MT; sister: Ethel (Danny) Cain, Payson, AZ; cousins: Richard Horner, Grand Forks, ND; Herb Horner, Grand Forks, ND; Sharon Lowe, Texas, Judy Lowe, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Forest River Community Church, Forest River, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Forest River Cemetery.
