Emma M. Dvorak, age 101 of Grand Forks, formerly of Conway, ND passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the Valley 4000, Woodside Village of Grand Forks, ND. Emma M. Narloch was born May 10, 1913 at Veselyville, ND, the daughter of the late Andrew and Anna (Kuchar) Narloch. At an early age she moved with her family to St. Andrews Township, south of Drayton, ND. She attended school there through 8th grade. Emma worked on the family farm and for other area farmers doing shocking of grain during harvest. Emma was united in marriage to John A. Dvorak on July 5, 1932 in St. Edward's Catholic Church in Drayton. They built a house in Prairie Center Township where John ran a threshing crew and Emma worked in the cook car making delicious meals for the harvest crew. In 1947 they moved their house to the present location near Conway, ND where they farmed until 1969. The farm was a gathering place for many family events throughout the years. After retirement Emma worked on a potato harvester for various farmers for several years. John and Emma also were employed at the Drayton Sugar Beet plant for several seasons. Emma was a member of the Prairie Rose and the Snip and Sew Homemaker Clubs. She entered canning exhibits and won many ribbons at the Walsh County Fair. Emma was a wonderful cook. Her homemade chicken soup, dumplings and sauerkraut and roasted chicken were exquisite. Emma made the most delicious dill pickles, homemade bread and kolaches. She was a member of the Pisek Sr. Citizens where she enjoyed playing cards and singing with the Czech singers. Emma was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church, Conway, ND. She sang in the church choir and was an active member of the altar society. Emma had many hobbies, which included playing cards and solitaire, circle word, cross stitch, embroidery and gardening. Over the years she made over 80 handmade Christmas Ornaments for every member of her family and many friends. Emma will be remembered and missed by her daughters and son-in-laws: Caroline (Daryl) Hovland, Grand Forks, ND and Marilyn (Mervin) Simon, Conway, ND; 12 grandchildren 27 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren; sister, Lillian Dvorak, Drayton, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, daughter, Rose Spivack and sisters: Mary, Agnes, Valeria and an infant brother Andrew. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, December 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Park River. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service with the Rosary service at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at St. Mark's Catholic Cemetery, Conway, ND. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Heartland, Valley 4000 Woodside Village for their loving care they gave to their mother.
