Emil E. Klava, age 97 of Grafton, ND passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. Emil Klava was born March 26, 1916 in Oakwood, ND, the son of the late John and Theodosia (Rescka) Klave. He grew up and attended school in the area. He served in the Army during WWII. Following his discharge, he moved back to the Oakwood area and farmed with his family for a short time. He was united in marriage to Myrtle Holden on October 6, 1956. The couple lived in Grafton and California before moving to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Emil moved back to Grafton after the death of his wife Myrtle in 1996. He moved into the Lutheran Sunset in April of 2009. He was a member of the Grafton V.F. W. Emil is survived by his siblings: Joe Klava, CO, and Doris Braaten, Plymouth, MN, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Myrtle, and 8 siblings. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 10:15 at the Lutheran Sunset Home Chapel. Inurnment will be at the Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
