Elvon Anderson

b. January 14, 1914

Elvon A. "Buzz" Anderson, age 94 of Grafton died Sunday, September 28, 2008 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. Elvon Adolph "Buzz" Anderson was born January 14, 1914 in Roseau, MN the son of the late Paul and Lulu (Simmons) Anderson. The family moved to Grafton in 1922 and he graduated from Grafton High School in 1931. Buzz purchased the Phillips 66 gas station in 1931. His brother Loren joined in a partnership in 1932. They later bought the Phillips 66 Bulk Plant in 1947. The business was known as the Anderson Brothers Oil Co, which they ran for 43 years. Elvon was drafted into the United States Army during World War II, serving in Prince Rupert Canada for 38 months. He played in the army band there. He was discharged in 1945.   Elvon was united in marriage to Meredith Manderud on December 2, 1945 at Grafton Lutheran Church. He continued to operate Phillips 66 until retiring in 1975.

He was a member of the Grafton Lutheran Church, serving on the church council as secretary. He was a member of the Grafton Park Board, Grafton School Board, Past President of the Fair Oaks Golf Course, Past Commander of the Grafton American Legion Post #41, Past Chef De Gare of the 40 et 8. He sang in the Grafton Lutheran Church Choir for 50 years. He played in the Grafton City Band, Grafton Community Band, the Grafton Legion Band, sang in the Grafton Community Choir and the Grafton Male Choir.

He is survived by his wife Meredith, Grafton, ND; children: Judith (Bill) Keizer, Grafton, ND; Richard (Susan) Anderson, Souris, ND; Roger (Alice) Anderson, Bemidji, MN; 6 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 6 great- grandchildren, 8 step great-grandchildren, brother Leslie Anderson, Auburn, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Loren, Wes and Vernet.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at the Grafton Lutheran Church, Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Grafton Lutheran Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post #41.

The Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton is in charge of the arrangements.
