Elizabeth J Fagerholt

Elizabeth J. Fagerholt, age 94 of Grafton passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton.

Elizabeth Jackson was born July 16, 1923 in Grafton, ND, the daughter of the late Arthur and Lydia (Svarte-Thompson) Jackson. She grew up near Grafton and graduated from Grafton High School in 1941. She then attended the Minnesota School of Business. Following her education she returned to Grafton and worked for Drs. Tompkins, Countryman, and Rand. She was united in marriage to Robert Bygland on December 20, 1945. The couple made their home in Grafton and she worked various jobs including JCPenney’s, Reyleck’s, the State School, and Burke and Hodny Law Office. She was later united in marriage to Leonard Fagerholt on April 4, 1972. The couple made their home in Hoople until Leonard passed away on April 12, 1998. Elizabeth returned to Grafton in 1999 and moved into the Lutheran Sunset Home in August of 2015.

She was a member of the Grafton Federated Church, and former member of the First Lutheran Church of Hoople, the Eastern Star, and volunteered as librarian at the Sunset Home. She also volunteered at the state capital while Leonard served in the Legislature. She loved music, animals and visiting with people.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter Roberta (Earl) Burger, Saint Thomas, ND, stepchildren: Bruce (Sue) Fagerholt, Hoople, ND and Bette (Mike) Nelson, West Fargo, ND,2 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 10 step-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Eunice (Harold) Vold, Grand Forks, ND and Eulalie Smestad, Northfield, MN, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Robert and Leonard, and infant brother Arthur.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 1, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at the Grafton Federated Church. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Crescent Cemetery, Grafton, ND.
