Elaine W. Rutherford, age 86 of Grand Forks and formerly of Grafton, ND passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2008 at the Unity Medical Center of Grafton. Elaine Wendelbo was born October 14, 1922 in Farmington Township of Walsh County, ND the daughter of the late Axel and Laura (Sondeland) Wendelbo. She attended the Bell School Dictrict #5 near Grafton and graduated from Grafton High School in 1940.
After graduation she worked in Grafton and Fargo, ND. She attended the Interstate Business College in Fargo. She met Royce Rutherford and was united in marriage on Nov. 29, 1957. The couple lived in Page, ND. Royce preceded her in death on July 5, 1966. Elaine moved to Grafton in 1973. She worked at Ben Franklin and later was the Deputy Clerk of District Court for many years, retiring in 1987.
She moved to Parkwood Place in Grand Forks, ND in 2004. She was a member of the Grafton Lutheran Church.
Elaine is survived by her children: Nancy (Scott) Meiers, Ross, ND; Tom (Pam) Rutherford, Grand Forks, ND; Susan (Lein) Schiller, Argyle, MN; five grandchildren and sisters: Alice (Burton) Larson, Argusville, ND; and Laura (John) Carson, Hoople, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters; Helen Wendelbo and Marian Manderud and brother Marvin.
Memorial Services will be Friday, December 26, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grafton Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Friday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Page Cemetery, Page,ND.
The Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton is in charge of the arrangements.
