Edward L. Henschel

Edward L. Henschel, age 96 of Grafton, ND passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2015 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. Edward L. Henschel was born March 20, 1918 in the Neche area the son of the late Julius and Julia (Drager) Henschel. He attended rural school and worked on the family farm before being inducted into the United States Army. He served four years, four months and seventeen days, serving in Guadacanal, Fiji and Solomon Islands. He had malaria several times before being discharged in August of 1945. He was united in marriage to Hattie Greening on January 21, 1948 in Christ Lutheran Church of Neche. The couple made their home in Bathgate, ND. He managed a grain elevator in Clyde, ND for 11 years. The couple moved to Grafton and he worked as a mechanic at Hanson-Kopperud. Edward was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and the Grafton American Legion Post #41. He is survived by his wife, Hattie, Grafton, ND; daughter: Lois (Scott) Aikins, Beaverton, OR; sister, Ruth Tully, Drayton, ND; brother, Karl (Delores) Henschel, Bathgate, ND; son-in-law, Cordell Rose, Grafton, ND; sister-in-law, Darlene Henschel, Bathgate, ND; grandchildren: Brian (Brenda) Rose, Park River, ND and Shelly (John) Quirk, Grand Forks, ND; great grandchildren: Dustin Rose, St. Cloud, MN; Kassidy Arroyo, Grand Forks, ND; Cody Rose, St. Cloud, MN; Dylan Rose, Park River, ND; step-great grandchildren: Mariah and Emily. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Alice, sister, Annie Schimonek and her husbands, Emil Steinke and Emil Schimonek, sisters: Martha (Russell) Houston and Lydia (Phillip) Meagher, brothers: Gus (Doris) Henschel, Fred (Evelyn) Henschel, William Henschel and Reinhold (Donna) Henschel. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Grafton Lutheran Cemetery, Grafton, ND in the spring. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post #41 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
