Edgar A. Lafreniere

June 12, 1929 — October 8, 2014

Edgar A. LaFreniere, age 85 of Oakwood, ND passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. Edgar A. LaFreniere was born June 12, 1929 on a farm near Oakwood, ND, the son of the late Eugene and Angeline (French) LaFreniere. He attended St. Aloysius Academy in Oakwood and graduated from High School in Escondido, CA. He enlisted in the United States Marines, serving in the Korean War. He was stationed in Osaka, Japan and at Camp Pendleton in California. While he was in Japan he had the honor of escorting Cardinal Spellman to Korea. Edgar was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lucille Collette on September 21, 1953 in Oakwood, ND. Following his discharge, they moved to Oakwood where they raised their family and farmed. He retired from farming in 1997. After his retirement he enjoyed being outdoors, working in the shop and helping Terry by running his bulldozer and scraper. Edgar loved playing cards and dice, while spending time with his family and friends. He could always be found making everyone around him smile and laugh at his funny stories and jokes. Edgar was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Oakwood, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Grafton American Legion Post #41. Edgar is survived by his wife Lucille, Oakwood, ND; his children: Wesley (Charlene) LaFreniere, Denver, CO; Charlene (Ray) Cole, Huntington Beach, CA; Bruce (Joanne) LaFreniere, Las Vegas, NV; Terry (Julie) LaFreniere, Grafton, ND; Tammy (Doug) LaFreniere, Pahrump, NV; 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; siblings: Arlene Liles, Escondido, CA; Theresa Bender, Criderville, OH; Joyce Brown, Escondido, CA; Albert (Carmen) LaFreniere, Santee, CA; Leo LaFreniere, Escondido, CA; George (Barbara) LaFreniere, Round Rock, TX; and Anita (Dennis) O'Hanlon, Escondido, CA; several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Christopher LaFreniere (Wesley's son), brother, Edmond and sister, Marilyn. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, October 17, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Oakwood, ND. Visitation will be Friday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery of Oakwood. Military Rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post #41 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
