Earl L. Kjelaas, age 96 of Edinburg, formerly of Fairdale passed away Monday, May 9, 2016 at the First Care Health Center of Park River.

Earl L. Kjelaas was born March 30, 1920 in Adams Township, Walsh County, the son of the late Tom and Esther Kjelaas. He attended school at Benas Memorial District No. 131. He began farming with his brother-in-law and started raising Mink in 1944. Earl was united in marriage to Amelia Joshua on June 5, 1970 in Fairdale. The couple made their home on a farm near Fairdale. He worked for the Missile Base in Nekoma, ND, the Par Site in Concrete, ND, the Borden Potato Plant in Grafton, ND, D.T.I., Fort Totten, ND and at Spirit Lake Casino in Devils Lake. He retired in 2000. The couple moved to Park River in 2011 and in 2013 they moved to Edinburg, where they continued to live until the time of his death.

He was a member of the Gustavus-Adolphus Lutheran Church and the Sons of Norway. He enjoyed bowling and enjoyed traveling to various towns to play.

Earl is survived by his wife, Amelia Kjelaas, Edinburg, ND; his dog, Sheila and his dear friends Lynette and Nancy. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Hazel and brother Vincent.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 13, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fairdale.
